GRADE 5
The Grade 5 year focuses on teaching students to play the ukulele. They learn basic chords such as C, G,Dm, Am, F, and learn different pieces to solify the use of the chords. Learning chordal shapes and positioning are important at this stage. They further explore ukulele playing by learning to read TAB and exploring melody and accompaniment on the ukulele. The second half of the Grade 5 year is devoted to song writing. Students integrate with Homeroom with their Governmental Systems Unit investigate and, as a class, write a Protest Song. This prepares them well for writing a collaborative Grade 5 song for PYPx.
